New Zealand companies HamiltonJet and EV Maritime have signed a memorandum of understanding to build advanced composite, battery-powered commuter ferries.
The two companies expect that the initial vessels that will be completed under the project will replace the older ferries operating in and around Auckland.
EV Maritime CEO Michael Eaglen said that there are also plans to promote the new electric ferries to overseas markets, particularly major cities with commuter ferry fleets of 30 or more vessels.
