Queensland, Australia-based naval architecture firm Sea Transport Solutions (STS) is in discussions with the government of Fiji regarding the supply of some of its vessel designs in line with plans to revitalise the shipbuilding industry in Fiji.
The Fijian government said via a press release dated July 24 that it is considering utilising STS' design of stern landing vessels for cargo transport as well as the construction of medium catamaran Ro-Pax vessels to serve coastal routes.
STS is also in discussions with the government regarding the design of an upgraded shipyard on the western side of the main island of Viti Levu. Plans call for the construction of two new undercover engraving docks to ensure 24-hour dry and cool conditions for workers repairing commercial, defence, and luxury vessels of up to 100 metres in length.
