The dive and hydrographic vessel HMNZS Manawanui was commissioned into service by the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) earlier this month.
The fourth RNZN ship to be named after the Māori word meaning "to be brave or steadfast," the 85-metre research/survey vessel was originally delivered by Myklebust Shipyard in 2003 and sailed operationally as Edda Fonn with Norway's Østensjø Rederi.
Manawanui is equipped with a heavy lift crane, a diving chamber, and systems for deploying and recovering remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). It has also been fitted with upgraded engines.
The vessel arrived in Auckland in May after undergoing modifications and conversion in Denmark from February to March.
