The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) replenishment vessel HMAS Sirius has sailed out on one final deployment before its scheduled decommissioning in December of this year.

The ship's function will be taken over by the navy's two new Supply-class auxiliary oiler replenishment (AOR) vessels.

Sirius entered service in the RAN on September 16, 2006. The former commercial tanker was purchased by the Australian government in 2004 and underwent extensive modifications, including the addition of a flight deck, before being commissioned.

Sirius' final deployment will bring the ship to South-East Asia and the South-West Pacific.
