Nyamba Buru Yawuru, the development and investment company of Western Australia's indigenous Yawuru community, has formally welcomed a new patrol boat into service.

The eight-metre vessel has been christened Jurrwayi ("reef shark"). It will be operated jointly by Yawuru traditional owners, Western Australia's Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPAW), and the state's Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA).

The Yawuru Nagulagun joint management body commissioned the vessel, which is to be used on patrols, scientific research activities, and monitoring of the local ecosystem in Roebuck Bay Marine Park.

The patrol boat was built by local company Cordina Marine.
