The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Adelaide-class guided missile frigate HMAS Melbourne has been ordered to assist in implementing United Nations Security Council sanctions against North Korea.

Melbourne will cooperate with security forces of partner countries in monitoring and deterring ship-to-ship transfers of sanctioned goods as part of its ongoing North East Asia deployment.

The frigate had participated in China's International Fleet Review in Qingdao prior to being ordered to help deter and disrupt illicit trade and sanctions evasion activities by North Korea and its associated networks.
