BOOK REVIEW | The United States Marine Corps – The Expeditionary Force at War

BOOK REVIEW | The United States Marine Corps – The Expeditionary Force at War
Published on

This little book, one of the Casemate Short History series, offers a comprehensive overview of the US Marine Corps, past, present and future.

It also strongly reinforces the Corps' role as primarily a naval expeditionary force and not just another land army.

That misconception is common and understandable but it needs to be made. The Marine Corps is very closely tied to the United States Navy.

Using the Corps' 250 year history as background, the author shows how it recruits, trains and fights. He has included that comparatively rare, but always useful, device, the timeline, to clarify and put his comments into proportion.

His book, itself, is useful, too. A very practical approach to military history.
