Australia's Minister for Defence Industry has extended an agreement with BAE Systems Australia, Saab Australia and Naval Ship Management Australia (a joint venture between Babcock and UGL) to maintain eight Anzac-class frigates.

Christopher Pyne said the AU$1.2 billion (US$931.6 million) contract was for a five-year program that sustains the Royal Australian Navy ships and their shore support and training facilities.

Most of the work will be done at Henderson in Western Australia, with Sydney, Adelaide, and Williamstown also likely to benefit.

The long-range Anzac-class frigates are capable of air defence, surface and undersea warfare, surveillance, reconnaissance and interdiction.
