Contractors will soon commence major landside works on Australian operator Spirit of Tasmania's passenger and freight terminal precinct in anticipation of its planned move to GeelongPort in Victoria in the spring of 2022.
The AU$135 million (US$99 million) passenger and freight terminal precinct will be constructed over the next 12 months. The berth infrastructure will include a three-level boarding ramp for cars, caravans and trucks to board simultaneously, a terminal building providing improved amenity for passengers and staff, and the establishment of a boarding area that includes marshalling for 600 cars and a separate parking area for 150 trucks.
Fitzgerald Constructions Australia has been undertaking demolition of the existing berth structure and will continue with the significant marine works necessary to expand the wharf, berthing and loading facilities for the terminal. BMD Constructions will deliver the landside civil construction within the 12-hectare site while Kane Constructions will undertake construction of the passenger terminal building.
