Maritime services business Riverside Marine has added a second vessel to its marine research charter fleet based out of Townsville in Far North Queensland.

Built in New Zealand, the 34.9-metre Riverside Guardian is operating under Riverside Marine's latest brand, Riverside Oceanic. The new brand provides specialist charter vessels to the marine research, hydrographic, military, and offshore energy markets.

Powered by two Caterpillar C18 engines, the twin-screwed catamaran has a range of 5,500 nautical miles and a maximum speed of 14 knots.

For research purposes, the vessel can remain at sea for extended periods of time. On deck, it boasts a 140-square-metre spacious area that can accommodate a range of scientific and other equipment allowing scientists to conduct multiple operations in one voyage.
