Contracts have been awarded for surveys in support of offshore wind projects in the Netherlands and Denmark and gas field activities in Australia while a Dutch installation provider is selected for work in the UK renewables market.

Fugro completes windfarm surveys off Netherlands, starts new surveys off Denmark

Fugro has successfully completed a contract for the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) to perform a geotechnical site investigation at the IJmuiden Ver (Noord) V and VI offshore wind farm sites as part of a geophysical survey package.

Working from a third-party vessel, Fugro deployed its new proprietary geotechnical system to conduct 25 co-located cone penetration tests (CPT), thermal cone penetration tests (T-CPT), and high performance corer (HPC) tests.

The IJmuiden Ver V and VI areas are in the northern part of the IJmuiden Ver wind farm zone and will be able to accommodate around two GW of offshore wind capacity, on top of the four GW of capacity already planned in the IJmuiden Ver zone.

Fugro has also begun geotechnical site investigations at RWE's Thor offshore wind farm development in Danish waters. The collected geo-data will be used to inform the design, fabrication, and installation of the main wind farm components including turbine foundation, inter-array and export cables.

Located 22 kilometres off Thorsminde and with a planned capacity of 1,000 MW, Thor will be Denmark's largest offshore wind farm to date, producing enough green electricity to supply the equivalent of more than one million households.

Van Oord taps Rovco for UXO survey at Hollandse Kust Noord wind farm

UK-based Rovco has entered into an agreement with Van Oord to perform subsea investigation works on the Hollandse Kust Noord wind farm off the Dutch coast.

Rovco has been contracted to carry out an unexploded ordnance (UXO) investigation and identification campaign as well as survey work across nominated locations on the wind farm with the removal of any potential debris objects that may impede foundation and cable installation works.

The project will utilise two DP2 vessels across two phases. Rovco will deploy a work-class remotely operated vehicle (WROV) to precisely identify subsurface targets and generate full 3D models of UXO items in situ and in real-time during investigation.

Shearwater GeoServices to perform 4D baseline survey offshore Australia

Shearwater GeoServices has been awarded a contract by Australia's Woodside Energy for 4D baseline survey work over gas fields in the Carnarvon Basin offshore Australia.

The survey will take two to three months to acquire. It is scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2022 and will cover the Scarborough and Jupiter gas fields.

The objective of the survey is to provide a modern, robust high-definition survey for development planning, and ultimately be used as the baseline for time-lapse data in the event of acquisition of future monitoring seismic surveys.

Heerema awarded transport and installation contract at UK's Hornsea Three wind farm

Norwegian offshore engineering company Aibel has contracted Heerema Marine Contractors to transport and install two offshore converter stations (OCS) for the Hornsea Three offshore wind farm in UK waters.

The work will include transporting and installing the two OCS jackets, eight skirt piles, and the two OCS topsides. Heerema will perform offshore lifting of the jackets onto the seabed before installing the piles to ensure fixation to the seabed.

After executing the jacket installation, the OCS will be completed by installing the topsides onto the jackets.
