Maintenance dredging at Northport in Marsden Point in New Zealand has commenced for the first time in 17 years.

Work began on Monday, January 7, to remove sediment build-up in the ship turning basin near Snake Bank, along Northport's linear berth and at Refining NZ's Jetty 1 berth pocket. The dredging works are expected to continue for most of the month.

The work will be undertaken by Dutch Dredging NZ using the specialist trailing suction hopper dredger Albatros (pictured), which has been brought up to Whangarei Harbour from Nelson.
