Queensland, Australia-based marine contractor the Pacific Marine Group will soon begin infrastructure improvement works at the Port of Alotau in Milne Bay province, Papua New Guinea.

The project will involve deconstruction and recycling of the port's entire existing jetty, including complete removal of all piles, before construction of a new jetty can commence.

The new jetty will utilise steel tubular piles and precast topside elements, with a site poured topping slab. A small craft pontoon and gangway will also be incorporated into the new structure.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) together with the Australian Government, via the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the PNG Government have jointly funded the project through the Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA) and the Milne Bay Provincial Government.
