A multi-purpose tank for the hydrodynamic testing of vessels and equipment has been approved for construction at St Petersburg's Krylov State Research Centre.
A two-storey building with total area of 26,292 square metres will be built to house the tank.
Glavgosexpertiza said the centre is Russia's major engineering complex for the design and construction of ships and facilities for naval and merchant applications and for offshore exploration and production.
The Krylov centre conducts scientific and technological activities in hydrodynamics, power engineering, acoustics and the design of naval and civil ships. It includes the world's longest deep-water towing tank (1,324 metres), shallow-water towing tank, seakeeping basin, seakeeping-manoeuvring basin, circular rotating-arm basin, and a complex of cavitation tunnels, high speed tanks and ice tanks.
The construction will be financed by the federal budget.
