Chinese shipbuilder the Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group recently delivered a new research vessel to the Chinese Ministry of Natural Resources.
Xiangyanghong 31 has a length of 89 metres, a beam of 18 metres, and a displacement of 3,000 tonnes. It can sail up to 10,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 16 knots.
The vessel will be used primarily in the South China Sea, where it will perform monitoring of offshore buoys.
Design work on the vessel was provided by the 701 Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) in compliance to China Classification Society (CCS) rules.
