Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has announced a naming ceremony for the world's largest containership, 'CSCL Globe'.

The first of five 19,000TEU containerships ordered by China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL), the vessel measures 400 metres in length, 58.6 metres in width and 30.5 metres in depth.

The vessel is as large as four soccer fields and will be deployed on the Asia-Europe trade loop after being handed over to the owner, said HHI.

The 'CSCL Globe' will feature a 57,600kW electronically controlled high-efficiency main engine, which automatically adjusts the vessel's fuel consumption according to speed and sea conditions.

The containership will burn 20 per cent less fuel per TEU in comparison with smaller 10,000 TEU containerships, said HHI.
