Netherlands-based OSD-IMT has secured a contract to design three shallow-draught tugs in a series for shipbuilder Patria Maritim Perkasa of Batam, Indonesia.
The 23-metre tugs will be equipped to assist barges in berthing and unberthing and for towing these barges along the Barito River in the South Kalimantan area. The tugs will have design draughts of two metres as the upstream part of the Barito has a water depth of only around 2.5 to three metres during Indonesia's dry season.
Two main diesel engines will deliver a free running speed of around 10 knots and a bollard pull of 18 tonnes.
Patria Maritim Perkasa will build the tugs, which will be operated by Patria Maritime Lines. The first of the three vessels is scheduled for delivery in March 2020.
