Scottish operator Targe Towing recently took delivery of two line handling boats in a series from Turkey's Sanmar Shipyards.
The Robert Allan Ltd-designed Gannet (pictured) and Cormorant each have an LOA of 11.95 metres, a moulded beam of 5.5 metres, a draught of 1.6 metres, and seating for up to 12 passengers. Two 224kW main engines deliver a speed of 9.5 knots and a bollard pull of seven tonnes.
The craft will provide assistance for very large crude carriers (VLCCs) as well as smaller tankers. Secondary functions will include crew and supply transfers, pollution response, and terminal safety patrols.
The newbuilds will be operated primarily in support of the Hound Point oil export terminal, the largest facility of its kind in Scotland.
