Damen Shipyards Group has won a competitive tender process for the supply of a new multi-purpose tug for the marine services department of the Ports of Jersey.
The tug will have a length of 27 metres, a draught of three metres, and a total installed power of 2,500 kW, giving it a bollard pull of 40 tonnes and a speed of 11 knots.
The vessel will also have a deck crane and MCA-compliant crew accommodations.
The new vessel will be the second Damen tug to be operated by the Ports of Jersey. The first vessel, the multi-purpose tug Duke of Normandy, has been in operation with the port for 15 years.
Port of Jersey operations and commercial manager Donford Nicholas said that the new tug will also be operated in support of future offshore wind projects in nearby UK and EU waters.
Delivery is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021.
