Bahamas-registered Platanos Shipping has taken delivery of Zeus, a new Suezmax tanker built by Japan Marine United (JMU) of Yokohama.

The LR-classed newbuild has an LOA of 274.3 metres, a beam of 48 metres, a deadweight of 159,153 tonnes, space for 28 crewmembers, and one MAN B&W 7S65ME-C8.5 main diesel engine. JMU said the vessel is capable of fuel-efficient sailings thanks to the use of electronic controls for the engine, a wave-piercing bow design, and low-friction paint on the hull.

The builders further claimed that corrosion-resistant paint was used on the cargo and ballast tanks to help ensure compliance with IMO III Performance Standard for Protective Coastings (PSPC) regulations.
