Erik Thun takes delivery of 17,999DWT newbuild

Baird Maritime

Swedish shipping company the Erik Thun Group has taken delivery of a new tanker built by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard Yangzhou. Thun Vettern was designed by Furetank and FKAB Marine Design with an ice class 1A hull and a hybrid propulsion system.

The 17,999DWT newbuild has dual-fuel capability, allowing it to run on LNG/LBG or gasoil. A shore power connection is also available.

The ship is designed with a battery hybrid solution and several features that reduce fuel and energy consumption. This then results in significantly lowered emissions of CO2, SOx, NOx, and hazardous particles.

Thun Vettern is designed for the intense and demanding trade in the North Sea and Scandinavia. The ship is also well-suited to meet the growing European demand for biofuels and renewable feedstocks. Furetank will technically and commercially manage the new vessel, which will enter into the Gothia Tanker Alliance network.
