A consortium has secured a SGD1.46 billion (US$1.1 billion) contract for the Tuas Terminal Phase II port development project in Singapore.
The consortium includes Netherlands dredging company Royal Boskalis Westminster, Japan's Penta-Ocean Construction Company and South Korea's Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company.
Boskalis said it has received a letter of award from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) for the project also known as Tuas Terminal Finger Pier 3.
The project includes the design and construction of 387 hectares of land reclamation works bounded by 9.1 kilometres of 30-metre-high caisson walls.
Boskalis will carry out dredging and civil engineering works that include the deepening of the port basin and access channel, dredging of a sand key and managing the supply of sand to create the new land.
The contract is expected to be finalised after the Chinese New Year.
Boskalis' share in the consortium is 30 per cent with a corresponding contract value of €300 million (US$368 million).
Construction is expected to start soon and be completed in 2027.
The project is a centrepiece of Singapore's next-generation port vision to consolidate container port activities at Tanjong Pagar, Pasir Panjang, Keppel and Brani.
Once complete, the facility will allow 65 million standard-sized containers to be handled a year, up from 40 million today.
It will incorporate features, such as automated yard cranes and port equipment, to raise productivity, reduce labour costs, and cater for mega-vessels.
