On Wednesday, December 16, China's Nanjing Jinling Shipyard laid the keel of a new Ro-Ro ship and cut the first steel for a near-identical sister vessel.
The vessels will be the second and third, respectively, in a series of three hybrid Ro-Ro ships to be built by Nanjing Jinling for Finnish operator Finnlines. These two ships will be named Finneco II and Finneco III.
As with earlier sister Finneco I, the two vessels will be powered by two-stroke diesel engines and lithium-ion battery systems that will allow zero-emission port visits. The vessels will also be fitted with emission abatement systems, solar panels, and an air lubrication system to help cut emissions further.
Delivery of all three vessels in the series is expected between 2021 and 2022.
