NYK orders four LNG-fueled PCTCs

Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) has awarded China Merchants Jinling Shipyard Nanjing a contract for the construction of four LNG-fueled pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) in a series.

These four vessels will be delivered from 2022 to 2023 and are planned to be assigned to transport vehicles mainly to/from Europe and/or to the Middle East.

Each PCTC will have an LOA of approximately 199.9 metres, a beam of 38 metres, a gross tonnage of 72,800 tonnes, and capacity for up to 7,000 cars. Power will be provided by one WinGD X-DF2.0 main engine, which is expected to reduce emissions of methane, SOx, NOx, and CO2 by as much as 50 per cent, 99 per cent, 96 per cent, and 40 per cent, respectively.
