Danish shipowner Norden has begun conducting the third seagoing test of a new carbon-neutral biofuel made from waste vegetable oil.
The tests are being conducted using the bulk carrier Nord Biscay. The vessel recently departed the Russian port of Ust-Luga and is currently sailing for the Black Sea.
The biofuel was developed by Netherlands-based GoodFuels. Norden expects that 10 vessels operating on this biofuel will achieve CO2 emissions reductions of as much as 150,000 tonnes – or four per cent of total emissions – each year.
