Keels laid for two new cargo ships for Norway’s Misje Eco Bulk

Baird Maritime

Sri Lankan shipbuilder Colombo Dockyard has laid the keels for two new bulk carriers ordered by Norwegian owner Misje Eco Bulk.

Each vessel will measure 89.95 metres long and will have a deadweight of 5,000 tonnes. The holds will be optimised for the transport of grain, timber, project cargo, and even containers.

The propulsion arrangement on each ship will consist of a hybrid system wherein a battery will supply additional power to augment the four-stroke main diesel engine.

The two newbuildings are part of a firm order for six ships in a series plus four optional ships.
