The Canadian government has confirmed that an investment of approximately CA$38 million (US$28.8 million) has been allotted for upgrades to improve cargo movement at the Port of Argentia in Newfoundland.
The project will expand the existing Fleet Dock terminal. This expansion includes the construction of approximately 460 metres of berthing space for three new berths to accommodate larger vessels and a Ro-Ro ramp to facilitate the movement of containers and cargo.
The works will also entail increasing available dockside space by approximately 100,000 square metres.
The investment is made available via the National Trade Corridors Fund, a competitive, merit-based program designed to help infrastructure owners and users invest in critical transportation assets that support economic activity in Canada. A total of CA$4.6 billion (US$3.4 billion) over 11 years (2017-2028) has been allocated to the program.
