Chinese shipbuilders fear overcapacity

Chinese shipbuilders are pessimistic about the industry's future outlook, despite a buoyant first half in 2010 that saw incremental orders increase four times over the same period last year.

Overcapacity, particularly in containterships and oil carriers, and an unpredictable economic situation in Europe and the United States mean that orders may slide, according to a report in China Business News.

In this case, it would be small and medium shipbuilders that would be most affected.
