MPC Container Ships christens 5,500TEU newbuilds

Baird Maritime

Norwegian transport company MPC Container Ships recently held a formal naming ceremony for its two newest vessels.

Mackenzie and Colorado each have capacity for 5,500 TEUs as well as hull designs that can help reduce fuel consumption by as much as 40 per cent.

The vessels are also designed for conversion to enable operations on methanol fuel. MPC said use of green methanol can potentially deliver emissions reductions of as much as 90 per cent.

The ships will be handed over later this year, after which they will commence serving seven-year charters with ZIM Integrated Shipping Services.

Mackenzie and Colorado were built by HJ Shipbuilding and Construction of South Korea.
