Ports of Stockholm has confirmed that the entire Stockholm Norvik Port has completed undergoing construction and is now operational.
The port's container terminal opened in May while a Ro-Ro terminal opened in November.
The port will serve as a transport hub for the Stockholm region. It will facilitate the seaborne transport of imported goods directly to the region instead of having these offloaded at other ports in the south of Sweden.
Construction of the port began in 2016. Ports of Stockholm claims that, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the port was completed on schedule.
The port covers 44 hectares and is located 50 kilometres south of Stockholm. Its depth of 16.5 metres enables it to accommodate the largest vessels that operate in the Baltic Sea.
