Two new vessels join Indonesian fisheries ministry’s patrol fleet

The Indonesian Marine and Fisheries Ministry (Kementerian Kelautan dan Perikanan; KKP) formally welcomed two new patrol vessels into service on Tuesday, March 9.

The aluminium-hulled fisheries monitoring vessels HIU 16 and HIU 17 will be used to patrol waters of Indonesia's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) within the Malacca Strait and the Natuna Sea, respectively.

Each vessel has an LOA of 32 metres, a moulded beam of 5.85 metres, a draught of 1.15 metres, and accommodations for 15 crewmembers. Two MAN 1,230kW engines that deliver a maximum speed of 29 knots.

The KKP's active fleet now totals 30 following the commisioning of the two monitoring vessels.
