The future Canadian Coast Guard offshore fisheries science vessel (OFSV) CCGS John Cabot has begun conducting sea trials in the waters off North Vancouver.
The ship will be put through its paces during rigorous full-scale exercises where specialists from Seaspan Shipyards, representatives from the coast guard and key equipment suppliers will conduct a series of performance and seaworthiness tests.
The tests will ensure that the ship operates as designed and that all systems – including mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, fishing and laboratory, communications, navigation, as well as fire and safety systems – are fully operational. Seaspan claims the vessel is 97 per cent complete and will be delivered to the coast guard in September.
The future John Cabot will be the third OFSV that Seaspan will supply to the coast guard.
