Irving Shipbuilding to build AOPS pair for Canadian Coast Guard

Baird Maritime

Irving Shipbuilding is set to build two Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) for the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's May 22 announcement that the service will be provided with up to 18 new large vessels.

The vessels will be based on the Harry DeWolf-class ships that Irving is building for the Royal Canadian Navy but will be modified for coast guard missions including patrols in support of the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization.

Like their navy counterparts, the CCG AOPS vessels will each have a length of 103 metres, a beam of 19 metres, a displacement of 6,600 tonnes, and a speed of 17 knots.
