The US Coast Guard's fast response cutter (FRC) Oliver Berry (WPC 1124) has been commissioned in Honolulu.
The first of three 46.9-metre FRCs to be stationed in Hawaii to serve the main Hawaiian Islands, Oliver Berry is designed for search and rescue, fisheries enforcement, drug and migrant interdiction, ports, waterways and coastal security, and national defence.
They can reach a maximum speed of more than 28 knots.
The Sentinel-class cutter is named for Chief Petty Officer Oliver Fuller Berry, who was a pioneer in the field of helicopter maintenance.
The Coast Guard is acquiring 58 FRCs to replace the 33.5-metre Island-class patrol boats.
