Navantia will receive on Friday, December 14, the Spanish government's official approval for it to build five F110 class frigates for the country's navy in a deal amounting to €4.3 billion (US$4.9 billion).
Each vessel will measure 145 by 18 metres and will displace 6,100 tonnes.
All five F110 frigates are scheduled to enter service within the 2023-2027 timeframe to replace the six aging Santa Maria-class ships that were commissioned between 1986 and 1995.
