First F125 frigate commissioned into German Navy

The newbuild frigate Baden-Württemberg was commissioned into service with the German Navy in a ceremony on Monday, June 17.

Built by the ARGE F125 consortium with ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems as lead company, the vessel is the first of a planned four F125 frigates.

It has a length of 149 metres, a beam of 18 metres, a displacement of approximately 7,000 tonnes, a crew of 120, and a maximum speed in excess of 26 knots. It will be capable of striking offshore and onshore targets as well as conducting anti-air and anti-submarine warfare.

Nordrhein-Westfalen, the second frigate in the class, is scheduled to be delivered to the German Navy in 2019 while the handing over of the third and fourth ship is planned to take place successively within the next two years.
