February 23 keel-laying for 11th Buyan-M class corvette

Russia-based Zelenodolsk Shipyard will hold a keel-laying ceremony on February 23 for the 11th in a series of Buyan-M class missile corvettes.

Designed by Zelenodolsk Design Bureau, the 11th Project 21631 corvette will be named Naro-Fominsk.

Ordered by the Ministry of Defense for the Russian Navy, the multi-role ships of capable of both inland and offshore navigation will be equipped with missiles, artillery weapons and electronic countermeasure systems.

The shipyard, a subsidiary of AK BARS Group, has built the Buyan-M missile corvettes for eight years.

Five ships have been delivered and another five are under construction at the Tatarstan-based shipyard.
