American workboat builder Vigor Industrial is set to transfer its aluminium newbuilding operations to a new shipyard in the Columbia Business Park just east of Vancouver, Washington.

Formerly owned by luxury yachtbuilder Christensen, which entered receivership in 2015 and has since shut down, the shipyard was chosen by Vigor as the site on which it will build new landing craft for the US Army under a US$1 billion 10-year contract.

Vigor, which is currently finalising the purchase of the site for an undisclosed price, intends to commence its Vancouver operations in May and start building a prototype of the army landing craft soon afterward.
