Spain approves construction of new submarine rescue ship

Baird Maritime

Construction of a new submarine rescue vessel slated for the Spanish Navy will commence next year following the Spanish government's recent formal approval of the newbuilding project.

The new vessel will replace Neptuno, a tug that has been in service since 1975, as the navy's sole submarine rescue platform. It will be designed specifically to be compatible with the Isaac Peral-class submarines scheduled to enter service in 2021.

The new submarine rescue ship will be built by local yard Navantia and is expected to be delivered in 2024.
