Philippine conglomerate San Miguel Corporation (SMC) will start work to rehabilitate Metro Manila's heavily polluted Pasig River in April, group President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon S. Ang said in a social media post earlier this week.

Mr Ang said the goal is to remove at least 50,000 tonnes of waste from the river every month over the next five years to help restore its optimal depth and natural flow.

SMC will partner with the Philippine government via the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Department of Public Works and Highways on the project.
