The Saam Towage tugs Saam Acaxual and Saam Centzunat recently arrived at the Port of Acajutla in El Salvador after a 40-day journey from the facilities of Uzmar Shipyard in Turkey.
Both vessels will provide services at the LNG terminal owned by Energía del Pacífico (EDP) in El Salvador.
The Robert Allan Ltd-designed tugs each measure 32 metres long and were especially designed to meet the needs of EDP' Acajutla LNG terminal. With a bollard pull of more than 80 tonnes, these vessels can work under dynamic traction loads of more than 135 tonnes at a speed of 10 knots.
The tugs are also capable of top free sailing speeds of 13.5 knots. Power is provided by two Caterpillar 3516C 2,350kW engines driving Kongsberg US255 fixed-pitch azimuth thrusters.
Both vessels have been equipped with specific safety features such as a remotely operated gas detection and automatic isolation system and deck equipment and machinery with explosive atmosphere certification (ATEX). They are also equipped with a BV-certified Fifi1 system for fighting offship fires.
