German sea rescue service welcomes 28m response boat to fleet

Baird Maritime

The German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbruchiger; DGzRS) recently took delivery of a new rescue boat.

The 28-metre self-righting newbuild has been named Felix Sand after a late private donor who had helped raise funds to purchase the boat. It is the second vessel of the same series to be stationed in Schleswig-Holstein on the Baltic coast.

The boat is powered by two MTU 1,440kW engines that deliver a speed of 24 knots. The onboard equipment includes first aid gear and a firefighting pump with a remotely controlled monitor.
