Estonia's Tallink Group transported over 1.8 million passengers in the second quarter of the current financial year, ending February 28, 2009, 15 percent more than the same period last year.

During the second quarter, Tallink transported 83,990 passengers on the Latvia-Sweden route, up 43 percent from last year; 212,340 passengers on the Estonia-Sweden route, up 23 percent; and also saw a 14 percent increase in the number of passengers to 750,740 on the Finland-Estonia route. There was also a 14 percent increase on the Finland-Sweden route, at 743,730 passengers.

On the Germany-Finland route, however, Tallink saw a 33 percent drop in passenger numbers to 16,610 in second quarter. According to Tallink, this was due to a service reduction, beginning in September 2008, from three to two vessels used in the service.

Tallink's financial year starts on September 1 and ends on August 31.
