Stena Line’s newest E-Flexer ferry completes sea trials

Baird Maritime

Stena Embla, the last of Stena Line's three new E-Flexer-class ferries destined for the Irish Sea, has successfully completed its sea trials in China's Yellow Sea.

The vessel has a length of 215 metres and capacity for 1,000 passengers and 120 vehicles. Stena Line further claims the ferry is 25 per cent more fuel efficient compared to existing vessels of similar size.

Stena Embla will be formally handed over to its new owners by December. It is expected to begin operating along the Belfast-Birkenhead route in early 2021 alongside sister vessel Stena Edda.

Construction of the ferry is in its final stages at the facilities of China Merchants Jinling Shipyard Weihai.
