The lengthening of Finnlines' freight Ro-Ro Finntide has been completed at Poland's Remontowa shipyard.

The process increased the vessel'sRo-Ro lane length from 3,291 metres to almost 4,200 metres.

In March, Finnlines contracted the Gdansk shipyard to lengthen four of its 2012-built Breeze series vessels, FinnskyFinnsunFinntide and Finnwave, with an option of two additional ones.

The lengthening process involves the vessel being cut in two and a 30-metre section inserted between the parts. It increases capacity of each by about 30 per cent, or 1,000 lane metres, and reduces the energy consumption per transported unit compared to the original vessel.

Passenger capacity will also be increased to 800 by building new passenger areas.

The work is scheduled to take less than two months for each vessel, with the program to be completed by May.

Finnlines is part of the Grimaldi Group.
