Azerbaijan ferry Balaken resumes operations after refit

Works on the ferry Balaken has been completed at the Bibiheybat shipyard at Baku in Azerbaijan.

Owned by the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ACSC), the 154.5-metre by 17-metre Balaken will again operate on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route after passing sea trials.

Works on the cleaned and repainted ferry included repairs to steering and auxiliary equipment, various pumps, and the main and auxiliary engines.

Built at the Ulyanik shipyard in Croatia, Balaken was commissioned in 2012. She can carry 54 railway wagons and has a maximum speed of 13.9 knots.

The ferry will transport railway wagons between Baku and Turkmenbashi, Aktau and Kuryk.
