New Brodick ferry terminal opens

Baird Maritime

The upgraded Brodick Ferry Terminal in Scotland is open for business.

Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) said the £30 million (US$42.4 million) redevelopment project was delayed by an issue relating to the automated door closure on the passenger access system (PAS).

The project included delivering a new pier, an increased marshalling area through reclaimed land and a modern terminal building, with bus stances and parking facilities.

It is the single biggest port infrastructure construction project delivered by CMAL and supported by Transport Scotland, North Ayrshire Council, Strathclyde Partnership for Transport and Coastal Communities Fund.

The opening comes after CMAL issued a tender for a new linkspan at Oban Ferry Terminal.

The linkspan, which is the terminal's original linkspan and is used by the Mull ferry service, has reached the end of its serviceable life. Existing support structures will also be strengthened.

The contract will be delivered on site in February and March 2019.

The tender process is being managed through Public Contracts Scotland (PCS).

CMAL has also commissioned ground investigation work at Tarbert (Harris) to understand ground and seabed conditions as part of an infrastructure upgrade to prepare for the new dual fuel ferry to serve the Skye triangle route.

This includes work in the harbours at Tarbert (Harris), Lochmaddy and Uig.
