Turkish yard to build 31-metre ferries for customers in Europe

Baird Maritime

Nova Shipyard in Turkey will build two passenger ferries in a series utilising a design developed by French naval architecture firm Mer et Design.

One ferry will be operated in Ireland while the other will be operated in France. Both will be classed by Bureau Veritas.

The vessels will each have aluminium construction, a length of 31 metres, space for 295 passengers, and IMO Tier III engines that will deliver a speed of 20 knots. Exhaust gas aftertreatment systems and a blackwater treatment system to help preserve surrounding oyster beds will also be fitted.
