Italy’s Liberty Lines welcomes new hybrid ferry to fleet

Italian ferry company Liberty Lines recently took delivery of a new hybrid vessel built by Spanish shipyard Armon.

The 39.5-metre ferry has been named Vittorio Morace in honour of the late founder and former chairman of Liberty Lines. Construction was completed in compliance to RINA guidelines including the Green Plus class notation.

Equipped with MTU engines powered by both conventional and electric propulsion, the vessel is able to cruise at up to 10 knots in full electric mode and to recharge its batteries even while underway. A maximum speed of 30 knots can be achieved when in conventional operating mode.

Seating is available for 251 passengers across two decks. Onboard facilities include seven toilets and a kiosk/bar.

Another 11 ferries from the same series are under construction at Armon's facilities. Liberty Lines expects to take delivery of all remaining vessels by 2026.
