Indonesian ferry Dharma Kencana II abandoned after fire

An Indonesian ferry has been abandoned in the Java Sea after it caught fire on October 29.

Shipwrecklog.com reports the 90-metre-long, roll on roll off passenger ferry Dharma Kencana II caught fire on its lower deck between Pontianak and Samarang.

The vessel departed from Pontianak with 119 passengers and 46 vehicles aboard.

Crew found a fire on the lower deck and issued a distress call. A number of vessels, including the KM Kirana I Kumai, KM Flores and Sewa Sadewa, responded.

No injuries were reported as passengers and crew abandoned ship and were evacuated to the KM Kirana I Kumai.

Reports state the superstructure was gutted by the fire, but the ferry remained afloat.
